Space Propulsion

Numerous space propulsion concepts other than the rocket have been proposed since the beginning of the Space Age. Such "space drives" would use propulsion methods such as antigravity, inertia control, magnetic fields, etc., to achieve missions far beyond the capabilities of any rocket. The ideal space drive would obtain its energy from an external source such as the zero-point energy field, thereby eliminating the need for an onboard fuel supply. In recent years, the theoretical possibilities for the Star Trek concept of a warp drive have also been explored.
